What the elders said was true...

In everybody's life, there have been times when their elders have wisely said "Dear, this world is too selfish and as you grow up, you will find that all people around you always wear a mask on their faces, covering their true selves.
You have to be very careful and intelligent enough to find out the gems among the rocks. And in no time you will realize that your circle of true friends and selfless people starts dwindling or stagnates. Everybody is solely interested in personal motives."

And as I slowly move up the corporate ladder, this piece of wisdom, which I used to think was not worth remembering when I was young, bites me with an alarming frequency. Nobody cares for you there. I sometimes think that I should be my natural self no matter what.
But I just can't be. I have to follow the herd coz if I don't, I stumble very often.

When I travel in the company bus everyday, I realize that the journey become very lonely if you are WHAT YOU ARE...If you act crap and be boisterously professional, even then people will just approach you if they need something from you. MORAL of the story: Never ever trust anybody and assume things instinctively, coz if you fall from the cliff, the descent is too painful.

But I am happy that I have got that rational mind which I polish daily and try my best to draw the line between my true self and my camouflage. I dont want them to overlap.

I hope that at least those few people who I really feel are honest and true, and those who I like and trust 100%, stay the same always, and never ever approach me wearing a cloak!
